Works for any Indian marketplace settlement, invoice line, or product price. All figures in ₹.

Add GST: total = amount × (1 + rate). Remove GST: base = amount ÷ (1 + rate).

How GST works on a sale

Base, GST, and the CGST/SGST/IGST split.

GST is charged as a percentage of the taxable value of your product. To add GST, you multiply the base by (1 + rate); to remove it from a tax-inclusive figure, you divide by (1 + rate). Marketplace settlement reports usually show inclusive totals, so reverse-GST is the calculation most sellers actually need.

Where the tax goes depends on the buyer’s location. If they’re in your state, the slab splits in half into Central GST and State GST — an 18% sale becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST. If they’re in a different state, the whole 18% is a single Integrated GST (IGST). The total tax is identical either way; only the split on the invoice changes.

GST on your product is separate from the GST the marketplace charges on its commission. Keep them apart when you reconcile — this calculator handles the tax on your sale price.

Slabs

India’s GST slabs.

These are the statutory rates. The slab that applies to a product is decided by its HSN code — confirm yours on the GST portal or your marketplace listing.

SlabTypical goods
0%Unbranded food staples, some books — nil-rated / exempt
5%Apparel under ₹1,000, footwear under ₹1,000, household essentials
12%Apparel over ₹1,000, some footwear, processed foods
18%Most electronics, accessories, home & kitchen, services
28%Luxury goods, large appliances, premium categories

Indicative mapping only — the legally correct slab is the one tied to your product’s HSN code. Verify before invoicing.

FAQ

GST questions sellers ask.

How do I calculate GST on a product price?
To add GST, multiply the base price by (1 + rate). For example, ₹1,000 at 18% GST = ₹1,000 × 1.18 = ₹1,180, of which ₹180 is GST. To remove GST from a GST-inclusive amount, divide by (1 + rate): ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 base. This calculator does both — pick 'Add GST' or 'Remove GST'.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
When the buyer and seller are in the same state (intra-state supply), the GST splits equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) — so 18% becomes 9% + 9%. When they are in different states (inter-state supply), the full rate is charged as a single IGST. The calculator's 'Supply type' toggle handles both.
Which GST slab applies to my product on Meesho or Amazon?
India has five GST slabs: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. The slab depends on the product's HSN code — most apparel under ₹1,000 is 5%, footwear and many home items are 12% or 18%, and electronics are typically 18%. Check your product's HSN code for the exact rate; the marketplace also shows the GST rate it applies on each listing.
Is the GST amount calculated on the price before or after marketplace commission?
GST on your sale is charged on the product's taxable value (the price the buyer pays for the goods), independent of the marketplace's commission. The marketplace separately charges GST on its own commission/fees to you. Keep the two apart: this calculator handles the GST on your product price.
How do I remove GST from a total amount (reverse GST)?
Use the 'Remove GST' mode. If a settlement or invoice shows a GST-inclusive total, the base value = total ÷ (1 + rate) and the GST = total − base. For ₹2,360 inclusive of 18%, base = ₹2,360 ÷ 1.18 = ₹2,000 and GST = ₹360.
Do Meesho sellers have to charge GST?
Most sellers on Indian marketplaces need GST registration to list, and GST is applied on taxable supplies. The exact treatment depends on your registration type and product category. This tool computes the tax maths; for whether a specific supply is taxable and at what slab, confirm with your accountant or the GST portal.
Is this GST calculator free and accurate?
Yes — it's completely free, needs no signup, and runs entirely in your browser (nothing is uploaded). The maths uses India's fixed statutory slabs (0/5/12/18/28) and standard inclusive/exclusive formulas, so the split is exact. The only thing you supply is the correct slab for your product.
What does GST-inclusive vs GST-exclusive mean?
GST-exclusive (pre-tax) means the amount shown does not yet contain GST — tax is added on top. GST-inclusive means the amount already contains the tax, so the base has to be backed out. Marketplace settlement reports usually show inclusive totals; price tags to buyers are typically inclusive too.
Can I use this for inter-state Meesho or Amazon orders?
Yes. Set 'Supply type' to Inter-state and the whole slab is shown as IGST — which is how it appears when you ship to a buyer in a different state from your registered place of business. For same-state orders, choose Intra-state to see the CGST + SGST split.
Does changing my listing photo affect GST?
No — GST is purely a function of price and slab. But your listing photo can quietly raise your shipping cost on Meesho by inflating the volumetric weight bracket. That's a separate lever from tax: use the GST calculator for tax, and Low-Shipping AI to keep shipping charges down.
