What goes on a tax invoice

A compliant invoice, without the spreadsheet.

A GST tax invoice needs a fixed set of fields: the words Tax Invoice, a unique number and date, the seller’s GSTIN and address, the buyer’s details, the place of supply, and an item table with description, HSN, quantity, rate, taxable value, and the GST split. This tool lays all of that out for you and fills the maths automatically.

The tax splits by where the buyer is. Same state as your registration and the slab divides into CGST + SGST; a different state and it becomes a single IGST. A round-off line brings the total to the nearest rupee, exactly as a printed invoice shows it.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your business details, buyer details, and amounts are never uploaded. The PDF is your browser’s own “Save as PDF”, so the document stays entirely on your device.

FAQ

GST invoice questions sellers ask.

Do Meesho and Amazon sellers need to issue GST invoices?
If you're GST-registered and making a taxable supply, a tax invoice is required. Marketplaces generate one for many orders, but sellers frequently need to issue their own — for B2B buyers, manual or off-platform sales, or to keep their own records. This generator produces a compliant tax invoice you can download as a PDF in seconds.
What fields are mandatory on a GST invoice?
A compliant tax invoice needs: the words 'Tax Invoice', a unique invoice number and date, the seller's name, address and GSTIN, the buyer's name (and GSTIN if registered), the place of supply, a line-item table with description, HSN code, quantity, rate and taxable value, the GST rate and amount split into CGST/SGST or IGST, and the total payable. This tool includes all of these.
When do I charge CGST + SGST versus IGST?
It depends on the place of supply. If the buyer is in the same state as your registered place of business (intra-state), the GST splits into CGST + SGST. If the buyer is in a different state (inter-state), you charge a single IGST at the full rate. Set 'Place of supply' on the form and the invoice splits the tax correctly.
What is an HSN code and do I need it on the invoice?
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) is a code that classifies your product and determines its GST slab. Including it on invoices is required above certain turnover thresholds and is good practice in all cases. Enter the HSN for each line item; it prints in the invoice's item table.
How is the GST on each line calculated?
For each line, taxable value = quantity × rate, and tax = taxable × GST rate. The tool sums the taxable values and the tax, splits the tax into CGST/SGST (same-state) or IGST (different-state), adds a round-off to the nearest rupee, and shows the total payable. The maths matches what standard invoicing tools produce.
Is the invoice generator free, and is my data safe?
Yes — it's completely free with no signup. Everything runs in your browser: your business details, buyer details, and amounts are never uploaded or stored on any server. The PDF is produced by your own browser's 'Save as PDF', so the data never leaves your device.
How do I download the invoice as a PDF?
Fill in the seller, buyer, and line items, then click 'Download PDF invoice'. Your browser's print dialog opens — choose 'Save as PDF' as the destination and save. The printout shows only the invoice, formatted to A4.
Does the tool validate my GSTIN?
Yes. It checks the GSTIN structure (15 characters: state code, PAN, entity digit, 'Z', and checksum) and verifies the official checksum digit, so an accidentally mistyped GSTIN is flagged before you generate the invoice.
Can I add multiple products with different GST rates?
Yes. Add as many line items as you need, each with its own HSN, quantity, rate, and GST slab (0/5/12/18/28%). The invoice computes and totals each line separately, so a single invoice can mix products taxed at different rates.
Is GST charged before or after marketplace commission?
GST on your sale is computed on the product's taxable value — what the buyer pays for the goods — independent of the marketplace's commission. The marketplace charges its own GST on the commission it takes from you. This invoice covers the GST on your sale to the buyer; use the profit margin calculator to see how the commission affects what you keep.
